Evenings in the Way Everlasting

Search me, O God, and know my heart!Try me and know my thoughts 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way (דֶּרֶךְ) everlasting!
Psalm 139:23-24
Perhaps inserting/interchanging some of the following activities into a family’s daily spiritual plan might contribute to evenings “in the way everlasting” that affect personal discipleship, marital oneness, and a child to the point that “even when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6)
Bible Study Focus
1. Topical studies (an attribute of God, Faith, grace, chronological period, etc.)
2. A Book of the Bible
3. Specific verses/passages (perhaps have a “passage of the week”)
4. A general reading schedule to develop familiarity with chronology, people, events, etc.
5. Meditation on specific verses and topics
6. Memorization (make flash cards to help)
Accountability
1. Recall good works done through the day
2. Identify/abhor the day’s sin
3. Confess the sins
4. Identify/take corrective measures
Prayer Petitions
1. Thanksgiving
2. Intercession
3. Supplication, both needs and wants
4. Confession (see accountability)
5. Praise (see worship)
6. For the country and for government leaders
7. Keep a prayer list of petitions and answered prayers
Television
1. Godly videos/movies
2. DVR recordings of godly programs
Worship
1. Have music playing in the home throughout the day
2. Play/Research music on YouTube as individuals and a family
3. Have a daily worship time as a family
4. Attend Christian concerts
Skill Development
1. Grow Bible study skills – word studies, exegesis ( ἐξήγησις “draw out” original meaning), hermeneutics (ἑρμηνεύω “to interpret” = interpretation and application)
2. Witnessing techniques
3. Apologetics preparation (ἀπολογία = defending the faith)
4. Congregational skills (edification, encouragement, reproof, etc.)
Cell Phones
1. Perform spiritually relevant research on it
2. Social media – connect with other Christians for godly purposes
Field Trips
1. Fellowship with other Christians through them
2. Circumstantial visitation (sick, bereaved, crisis, etc.)
3. Pursuing specific interests (e.g. nature, hobbies, sports)
Computers
1. Do spiritual research as individuals and a family
2. Email music, words of encouragement, testimonies of God’s workings, new understandings from Scriptures, etc.
3. Worship
Personal Testimony
1. Express how God interacted with each person on this day.
2. Develop testimonies like “What Jesus means to me,” ”Why I am a Christian,” “The importance of God’s Word,” etc.
3. Keep a journal of God’s activity in your life that might be included in your “ongoing blessing of God” to others.
Decore
1. Post Bible verses on the refrigerator, walls, etc.
2. Hang pictures, plaques, crosses on the walls
3. Display Bibles, flags and banners
4. Post a message on the front door that states this is a home of Christians
